Day 1, Monday, May 14, 2018

LISBON - FATIMA

Welcome to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, a great seafaring city situated where the Tagus River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Welcome to Europe! Scenic drive north through the magnificent Serra d’Aire Mountains brings you to the Shrine at Fatima, site of celebrated religious miracles. Return to Lisbon in the afternoon. Tonight, you will dine whilst listening to haunting Fado melodies.

Day 2, Tuesday, May 15, 2018

LISBON - SEVILLE

In the morning see the Vasco da Gama’s tomb inside Hieronymite Monastery, visit the medieval quarter of the city and view the Belem Tower. Depart to Seville. See the Giralda Tower. Admire the tiled fountains and pavilions in the Maria Luisa Park and visit the imposing Plaza de España. See Christopher Columbus' ornate tomb in the Cathedral and enjoy a walk through the former Jewish Quarter.

SEVILLE - GIBRALTAR - GRANADA

Spend the day on a scenic route from Seville via Gibraltar and Costa del Sol to Granada. Enter Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory and headland, on Spain's south coast, dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, a 426m/1,400ft-high limestone ridge. Arrive in Granada in the evening.

GRANADA - GUADIX - CARTAGENA

This morning your Local Expert Guide takes you on a visit to the incredible Alhambra Palace, built in the 14th century and a magnificent example of Moorish architecture. Admire the ancient stucco work, quiet courtyards and colossal walls. In the afternoon travel via the Mora Pass and arrive in Guadix in the northern foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains where you can take pictures of the troglodyte dwellings. Continue to Cartagena.

Day 5, Friday, May 18, 2018

CARTAGENA - VALENCIA

Today see Cartagena, a port city and naval base in the Murcia region of southeast Spain, founded by the Carthaginians around 220 B.C., city that boomed during the Roman period. Among its many Roman ruins see a 1st-century B.C. theater and Casa de la Fortuna, a villa with murals and mosaics and the Muralla Púnica (Punic Wall) interpretation center houses the remains of a 3rd-century B.C. defensive wall. Continue to Valencia, renowned for its orange fruit. See the Bull Ring, the great cathedral and the Towers of Serrano and Quart during your orientation tour. Stop to view the City of Arts and Sciences which is a large-scale urban recreation centre for culture and science, designed by Santiago Calatrava. Tonight why not sample paella, a speciality from this region.

Day 6, Saturday, May 19, 2018

VALENCIA - PENISCOLA - ANDORRA

Head north along the coast through the Levant region and stop at Peñíscola to view the ancient castle of the 'Spanish Pope', used in the film El Cid. Continue along the Costa Dorada to Andorra, a tiny, independent principality situated between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains, known for its ski resorts and a tax-haven status that encourages duty-free shopping.

ANDORRA - MONTSERRAT - BARCELONA (2 NIGHTS)

This morning visit the capital Andorra la Vella, famous for its boutiques and jewelers on Meritxell Avenue and several shopping centers. See the old quarter, Barri Antic that houses Romanesque Santa Coloma Church, with a circular bell tower. On your way to Barcelona visit the monastery in the rocky mountains of Montserrat to see the Black Madonna. Santa Maria de Montserrat is a Benedictine abbey located on the mountain of Montserrat in Catalonia, Spain. It is notable for enshrining the image of the Virgin of Montserrat. The monastery was founded in the 10th century and still functions to this day, with over 150 monks. Arrive in Barcelona in the evening.

BARCELONA

Explore the fascinating city of Barcelona, Spain's most cosmopolitan city. Your Local Expert Guide takes you on a wonderful sightseeing tour, which includes views of Gaudi's Sagrada Familia and the Plaza Catalunya. See the lively Ramblas and enjoy spectacular views of the city from Montjuic. As well as having a rich Roman and medieval heritage, Barcelona also has a reputation for fun. Tonight, visit a Catalan-style restaurant for a delicious dinner of local specialities.

Continue from Barcelona to Palma, a resort city and capital of the Spanish island of Mallorca (Majorca), in the western Mediterranean. See the massive Santa María cathedral, a Gothic landmark that begun in the 13th century and overlooks the Bay of Palma, the adjacent Almudaina, a Moorish-style Arab fortress converted to a royal residence. In the West of the city, see hilltop Bellver Castle, a medieval fortress with a distinctive circular shape.
